History / Details
- A meeting was organized at Poramatala on Feb 17, 1907, chaired by Bhuvanmohan Vidyarthan, to establish a library to prevent the exodus of Sanskrit manuscripts from Nabadwip.
- Roy Dwarkanath Bhattacharya Bahadur was the first president, and Debendranath Bagchi was the secretary.
- Under royal patronage, the library was renamed the Nabadwip Edward VII Anglo-Sanskrit Library in 1910.
- On June 27, 1914, with the financial help of Manindra Chandra Nandi, Haridas Shiromani’s toll house was purchased, and the library’s building was built.
- In 1955, the library’s name was changed to নবদ্বীপ সাধারণ গ্রন্থাগার or Nabadwip Public Library.
