Assistant Professor in Exercise Science and Health Promotion

Otterbein University is seeking applicants for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor in Exercise Science and Health Promotion . We seek candidates with a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate teaching and research, as well as to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, who will contribute to the department's efforts to enhance diversity and provide an inclusive learning environment for all.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking an innovative and collaborative colleague with commensurate expectations for teaching, scholarship, advising, and service. Responsibilities for this role include teaching between 9 and 12 credit hours in each of the fall and spring semesters. Courses taught may include: Anatomy and Physiology, Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Worksite Health Promotion, and Individual Community Health, and/or contributions to the University's general education program or elective course development. Faculty in this program are expected to assist Exercise Science students with their field experience. The successful candidate will maintain an active research agenda, engage in professional and university service activities, and serve as an academic advisor and mentor to a diverse Exercise Science and Health Promotion undergraduate student population. This position is a great opportunity to work with highly motivated students on research projects or internships. Faculty members in this Department also have the responsibility to recruit students into the program and may also be expected to assist with the Health Professions Club and/or other student groups, committees, activities on campus, and internship field experience oversight.

QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate in a field related to Health and Fitness, Exercise Science/ Physiology, and/or Strength and Conditioning is required. Applicants should also have an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM)certification such as the personal trainer or exercise physiologist credential. Other fitness certifications, such the Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) conferred by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), will be considered, but do not have as much weight as an ACSM credential. The successful candidate will have a strong desire to teach in a comprehensive liberal arts-based institution along with a commitment to service to the Department, University, community and/or profession.

COMPENSATION: For the rank of Assistant Professor - $71,500

WHEN: This appointment begins in August 2025.

DEPARTMENT: The Department consists of seven full-time faculty and several part-time faculty members. Otterbein offers majors in Allied Health, Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Public Health Education, Sport Management, Allied Health/Pre-Athletic Training Concentration and minors in Exercise Science and Health Promotion, Public Health Education, Nutrition and Sport Management. Otterbein also offers graduate education admission pathways in Allied Health (Health Care Administration track or Exercise Health Science track), and a Master's in Athletic Training.
