Our law firm is seeking a family attorney who can assist clients in navigating the sensitive legal issues of family law, including child custody, child abuse, and domestic violence. Jobseekers should be equally familiar with prenuptial agreements, divorce, alimony, child support, and real estate, and be able to effectively engage in oral debate and negotiation even in highly stressful and emotional situations. Responsibilities: • Maintain client files to ensure they are properly organized and up to date • Draft pleadings, motions, contracts, marital settlement agreements, judgements, and orders for a high volume of cases • Ensure clients are effectively represented at court hearings as needed • Handle the division of marital assets, including real estate, during divorce proceedings as needed • Help solve legal problems for clients through analyzing the situation, understanding their needs, and creating a strategic plan of action Key Responsibilities: • Develop case strategies, provide leadership, and guide paralegals and legal assistants • Handle full caseloads independently, from case inception to resolution • Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare memos on complex case issues • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and contracts as needed • Appear in court for various family law proceedings, representing clients in high-stakes situations • Prepare clients for trials, advocate on their behalf, and work with experts when necessary • Oversee division of marital assets and negotiate settlements in divorce cases • Maintain organized client files, ensuring documentation accuracy and timeliness Qualifications: • Extra consideration for those with a criminal justice background • Candidates should be great negotiators and communicators, specifically in situations when emotions and stress are high • At least 1-2 years of working in a law firm on family law issues as well as real estate (determining marital property) is necessary • Strong knowledge base of representing plaintiffs and defendants • Active member of the ABA (American Bar Association) Who We’re Looking For: • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in Family Law litigation and courtroom advocacy (required) • Licenses: Licensed to practice in Maryland and the District of Columbia • Skill Set: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strategic problem-solving, and attention to detail • Mindset: A compassionate and resilient advocate with experience navigating high-stress, emotional cases with a client-focused approach • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in analyzing and summarizing legal documents with strong attention to detail • Team-Focused: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a supportive team environment Preferred Qualifications: • Estate Planning experience • Proven success in advocating for both plaintiffs and defendants • Strong negotiation skills, especially under stressful conditions Ready to Make a Difference?
